Employees' State Insurance is a self-financing social security and health insurance scheme for Indian workers. The fund is managed by the Employees' State Insurance Corporation according to rules and regulations stipulated in the ESI Act 1948. ESIC's job is much better as there are better promotional avenues. After selection as an ESIC UDC, the next promotion will be as an Assistant. This normally requires service for a continuous period of 3 years in the same cadre and also depends on the vacancies available. ESIC is a corporation and employment is counted as Government service, but it is not a central government service, though it follows all central government rules.
